What Types of Natural Gas Does Xcel Energy Provide in Denver, CO?

Xcel Energy is a regulated electricity and natural gas company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that serves more than 3.7 million electricity customers and 2.1 million natural gas customers in parts of eight states (Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and New Mexico). Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel on Earth and just one of the many forms of energy that Xcel Energy provides. This win-win partnership allows us to produce oil and natural gas resources in an environmentally responsible way and, at the same time, attract new customers and markets. In its latest attempt to combat climate change, the Denver Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resilience committed to the change in a plan released on Tuesday that requires that newly built homes and buildings be mostly electrified by 2027 with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, either on-site or off-site.

Project Canary, an international environmental standards company based in Denver, Colorado, is a B corporation driven by a mission that responds to double profitability: profits and social good. Kinder Morgan will transport the gas purchased by Colorado Springs Utilities to Bayswater through its Colorado Interstate Gas Company pipeline. Project Canary collaborates with the Payne Institute of the Colorado School of Mines to develop a collaborative environment for oil and gas companies and external parties to share best practices and knowledge gained through continuous monitoring. Colorado Natural Gas personnel in the field can be recognized by the company's vehicle, uniforms and identification plate when they arrive at their home. The oil and gas industry presented an electoral proposal last year that would have prevented cities and towns in Colorado from banning natural gas connections, but ultimately withdrew the measure.

This is likely to mean a dramatic reduction in natural gas infrastructure in 2024 for new homes and in 2027 for new commercial buildings. As a member of the ONE Future Coalition, Kinder Morgan is part of a group of companies working to voluntarily reduce methane emissions throughout the natural gas value chain by up to 1% or less by 2025. Project Canary has partnered with nearly two dozen large exploration and production, gas pipeline and utility companies and has deployed its technology on 100 different well platforms, including in Colorado, where the state has leading national on-site emission monitoring standards in the country. The possible rule changes are intended to help Denver achieve net zero emissions in its new homes and buildings by 2030. Colorado Natural Gas offers rebates for homes and businesses that can save you HUNDREDS of dollars in the costs of upgrading your old heating equipment. Rimrock Energy Partners, an intermediate service provider in the DJ Basin, will collect and process the certified RSG before delivering it to Colorado Interstate Gas Company, a Kinder Morgan, Inc.

company.
